What does a 'republic' mean in our platform?

A republic is a community that revolves around a common idea or mission.
Each republic has a social feed, a user profile and a Q & A style board, in which members of the republic can ask questions and other members can answer.


Q & A board

Every board is filtered for each user based on their own interests, and for that republic only.

For example, John can have 'french-cooking', 'baking' & 'gluten-free' as his filters for the 'Cooking' community, and 'south-america', 'hiking' & 'rafting' as his filters for the 'Travel' republic.

Every republic could easily have its contents language switched.
John might spend most of his time reading posts in English, but if John speaks German as well he could switch the language and only see posts in German.
If John doesn't speak English, he could spend all of his time in the German community.


Social feed

The social feed is where you make announcements, post images and follow view posts from members you follow.
We keep a clear divide in Republic Era between posts from people you follow, and posts from the rest of the republic.
You can easily toggle between the two.

Just like the interests in the Q & A board, the list of users you follow is only relevant for that community.
John might follow Bonnie and Clyde in the "Cooking" community, and not follow them in any other community.


Profiles

Each profile you open in a republic is independent of any profiles you'll have in any other republic.
You are the only person in the world that would know that your profile in the 'Business' republic and that your profile in the 'Love & Relationships' republic belong to the same person.

Each profile has a unique name, tag line and profile photo and if you wish, contact information, managed by you.

Contact information

In your home page, go to menu -> Edit contact details
In this page, you can enter any contact details that are relevant to you. This information is visible to you and to you only.

Every new profile you'd open, would start of blank. When editing your profile, you could choose from all the contact details you entered in the previous step, all the ones that are relevant for members of this community.

For example, if you participate in a professional community, you might want to include your website and your work email in your profile.


Credit

We believe in acknowledgment.
When you help someone in our republics, we don't let it be forgotten.
For every action taken in the app, such as one of your answers being up-voted, you would get points counted to your profile.
These points are your credit, and they represent your contribution to the republic.


Self-governed

Some platforms give the "founder" of a group or a community, complete control over the group.
We believe ideas and missions are greater than people, so we decided to take on a different approach.

Instead of a single-ruler, our republics are managed by their members.
Once a week, every Sunday, republics are open for elections, and any user can apply to become a moderator.
After 24 hours, our system would go through all the candidates, and based on their credits and the size of the republic, choose a certain amount of users to be the moderators of the republic for the following week.
Moderators get to discuss the republic in a private board, and filter posts reported by other members.


Secret republics

Republics are a great tool that could be used by many. We want to give you the freedom of creating a republic for any topic you'd like, may it be a public republic for a shared interest or hobby, or a private republic for you and your family, your friends and even your workplace.
