Poet in New York is the title of a book of poems written by Federico Garca Lorca between 1929 and 1930 during his stay at the University of Columbia (New York), as well as on his next trip to Cuba, and published for the first time in 1940, four years after the death of the poet.
Considered by most critics as the author's best work, in Poeta en Nueva York the formal Lorca's procedures reach their climax, which serve as the basis for a radical social protest and a penetrating metaphysical inquiry.
