Take a virtual tour of the Kauai National Wildlife Refuge (NWS) Complex, which provides sanctuary for soaring sea birds, waterfowl and shorebirds. A historic lighthouse at Klauea Point NWR on Kauais north shore offers spectacular cliff-top views, whale watching, and imposing cliffs with nesting sites for numerous species of sea birds that live much of their lives in the expanse of the Pacific Ocean. Hanalei NWR, also on the north shore, provides habitat in managed wetlands and taro fields for shore birds and waterfowl, including five rare waterfowl species. Hulia NWR, near Lhue on the southeastern side of Kauai, is adjacent to a historic fish pond. As the latter two refuges are off-limits to visitors, the Pocket Gallery app is a great way to explore and learn about these special natural environments.
