Hanuman Chalisa is great poem written by saintly poet Shri Tulsidas in the sixteenth century in praise of Lord Hanuman in Awadhi language. There is a saying that Mughal Emperor Akbar had doubt on the truth of Shri Rams existence and he asked Tulsidas to show him Shri Ram. Tulsidas replied that Shri Ram gives Darshan (vision) to his Bhakts (devotees) only, the Emperor imprisoned him. In the prison Tulsidas wrote Hanuman Chalisa , in the praise of Lord Hanuman, which has 40 verses in Awadhi language. After completing Hanuman chalisa a force of monkeys attacked the town of Akbar. It said that the whole force of Akbar could not stop the monkeys from doing mischief, at last Akbar released Tulsidas and at a sudden the monkeys stop troubling and left.
It is said that Shri Ram and Shri Lakshmana have appeared to Tulsidas in person on a many occasions. The story of Goswami Tulsidas is highly inspirational to aspirants in the present age. It revives faith in the Divine and proves that God can be attained through pure devotion even in this Kali Yuga.
It is said that on the 40th day, the entire Fatehpur Sikri was surrounded by giant monkeys. They even entered the palace premises and started hurting the guards. So much mess these animals created that someone advised Akbar to free Tulsidas. The moment Tulsidas was released, the monkeys went, clearly indicating that Lord Hanuman came to the rescue of Tulsidas.
