My favorite part about this app was the speaking cards which are now behind a paywall. I don't mind paying, but I can't afford $30/month. I'm also not a beginner so the new content doesn't help me, and I would be paying for things I won't use. Could you offer different tiers with different pricing? I would be willing to pay about $5/month for just the speaking cards. It's hard to shell out so much money, even for a good app when there are other ones that are $30 for two years.
Great app for the most part, but can use some improvements. It's annoying when the app constantly gives you false errors. 1. The writing practice. The app cannot recognize your writing for the most part and will constantly show false errors for writing the character correctly. 2. The pronunciation practice. When you try to pronounce a word, the app's audio recording is so horribly fizzle that the play back is garbage, and you are constantly given garbage errors.
Good app overall but there are a few drawbacks: - extremely annoying sound effect every time you complete something, and you cannot disable it - games are against AI and not real people even though it pretends they're real, however this is not a real problem to me - you cannot stop recording manually, so if there's a background noise it will keep recording until it's quiet, making it hard to use the app for pronunciation in a noisy environment. Can't give 5 stars to this app for now, sorry.
I take back my five stars. The app is good, but it lags when you're searching for a word, and its pinyin input for search doesn't work that well. Some characters don't show up, so I have to use the handwriting option. Same with the English input. If you put an English word that sounds like a Chinese character, it would return results of the character and excludes english reults. It's really frustrating. Pronunciation ratings are sometimes so slow too
I like the flexibility to look for characters, pronunciation and meanings. After using HanBook for several weeks, I have found new features that help me to practice better. I learned them by exploring the App. BTW, it would be nice to have a short overview manual of the features.'
