Dengue is a mosquito-borne viral disease that has rapidly spread in all regions of WHO in recent years. Dengue virus is transmitted by female mosquitoes mainly of the species Aedes aegypti and, to a lesser extent, Ae. albopictus. These mosquitoes are also vectors of chikungunya, yellow fever and Zika viruses. Dengue fever is transmitted by the bite of an Aedes mosquito infected with a dengue virus. The mosquito becomes infected when it bites a person with dengue virus in their blood. It cant be spread directly from one person to another person.

Many people experience no signs or symptoms of a dengue infection. When symptoms do occur, they may be mistaken for other illnesses such as the flu and usually begin four to 10 days after you are bitten by an infected mosquito.
