Orientate, is a Laterality Recognition Program that forms part of a Graded Motor Imagery, a rehabilitation program based on clinical trials to treat pain and movement problems.
Laterality recognition or Left / Right Discrimination are known to occur in stroke patients and patients with CRPS/RSD and phantom limb pain. The ability to identify Left or Right is important for normal recovery. Orientate laterality software provide images of hands and feet in different positions and postures, on nine levels, totalling over one thousand five hundred images.
Research shows the ability to identify Left and Right is slower and less accurate in people suffering from pain, and there is a direct link to the ability to correctly recognize Left and Right to the level of pain. Orientate has been developed to measure this ability, and help retrain the brain.
Stroke patients may lose the ability to recognize a complete left or right hemisphere. As part of a comprehensive rehabilitation program Orientate will help to retrain the brain to see and recognize this missing hemisphere and aid the remapping of the brain.
Like all therapies laterality recognition dose not always show immediate results. The rate and amount of recovery much depends on the extent of the damage, and the intensity and duration of the therapy you receive. Recovery also is likely to be influenced by personality, life experiences and coping styles. Motivation to recover is a key factor in obtaining an optimal level of rehabilitation.

I wish it had more body parts for examples in the free section. I'd like to be able to have my patients use it at home, but most have a low income.
App is easy to use. Feedback on success over last 10 tests is shown graphically and text. Instructions on when to progress to the next level clear. Level one is free. Level two is $1.99. Level three is $2.99. I am still on Level one as there are six different challenges to master before moving to Phase two.
At first try I couldn't figure out what it wanted from me and when I would try again it didn't give me enough time to make the correct answer and it would have been correct. It's not that hard. I don't understand toe relevance to pain as I stay at about 8-10 ALL the time now. Displaced fx femur as well as fx patella does not help. I'm hoping my OT gives me permission to stop using it so I can uninstall it.
`The developer of this program misses a basic understanding of human nature. The success check or failure X after each image triggers powerful emotional programming in the brain of "being right" and 'being wrong which prevents some from completing the exercises from neutrality. Even light distress around right/wrong will cause a brain to fire dozens of times between images. I'm not sure how they could miss this. It completely skews the results. Note to developer: simply tabulate score at end.`,This is a great app! I was surprised how simple, yet difficult it can be. Kind of startling... and amazing how easy simple distrations can interrupt your thought process. I will continue to work with this.'
