Darood Lakhi or Darood-e-Lakhi, known as the Thousand-Fold Salutation is a prayer on the Prophet that is ascribed to the ruler, Sultan Mahmood Ghaznavi. Sultan Mahmood would recite a thousand salutations upon the Prophet every morning and night with utmost humility and sincerity. As he would spend much of his time in worship, some parts of his sultanate suffered as a result of negligence. One night he went to sleep, and he saw the Prophet Muhammad in his dream. The Prophet taught this prayer to the Sultan and told him to recite it after the Fajr prayer, the reward of which would be equivalent to a thousand salutations.
