The Shard is a skyscraper located in London, the capital city of the United Kingdom. The building is 309.6 meters high and has 95 floors, making it the tallest building in the country and the European Union, the fourth tallest building in Europe, and the 87th tallest building in the world.
Construction of The Shard began in March 2009 and was completed in November 2012. Finally, the observation point of the building was put into service on February 1, 2013. On the site where it was previously located, Southwark Towers was demolished for the construction of the building. The building was designed by Italian architect Renzo Piano and is constructed of steel and glass. The Shard includes offices, restaurants, shops, and a five-star hotel. The observation point is located at an altitude of 244 meters, and places 60 km away in the open air can be seen easily. The Shard was developed by Sellar Property Group and owned by Sellar Property and Qatar.
