What is SaskAlert?
SaskAlert is the Government of Saskatchewans emergency public alerting program that provides critical information on emergencies in real time, so you can take action to protect yourself, your family and your property.
Who can issue alerts?
Alerts can be issued by: Environment Canada, Government of Saskatchewan ministries, Crowns and agencies as well as participating municipalities and First Nations.
What types of emergency events are alerted on?
A) Weather alerts which are issued by Environment Canada may include:
Tornados - watches and warnings.
And any warnings issued for: blizzard, blowing snow, dust storms, extreme cold, freezing drizzle, freezing rain, heat and rainfall, severe thunderstorm, snowfall, wind, and winter storm.
B) Alerts issued by the province as well as by local municipalities and First Nations may include:
wildfires, flooding, train derailments, power outages, drinking water advisories, local emergency declarations, communication outages, road closures, and evacuations.
How can I receive alerts?
Critical emergency alerts can be received through all radio and TV broadcasters licensed to operate in Saskatchewan, by wireless alerting to your mobile device, through the saskalert.ca website, this SaskAlert App and The Weather Network. Advisory emergency alerts can be received through the saskalert.ca website, this SaskAlert App and The Weather Network.

Edit: Critical emergency alerts will turn your volume all the way up and play through earbuds or headphones at well above the maximum recommended level, there appears to be no way to avoid this, and it is painful. The app is easy to setup and use. I appreciate the warnings and like that I can take a quick glance or get more details as I need.
Solid app to keep you informed about possible threats of nature and now even missing persons so everyone can know and help if possible even if they don't keep up with the news or listen to the radio. Some alerts don't load properly and a proper description is sometimes missing. Very useful. Only downside, as far as I know this app does have to be sought out. I had to personally install it. I think it should come pre-installed on new phones in SK but can be uninstalled if desired.
The app's pretty good for knowing about bad weather. However, instead of having one notification at the beginning of a weather event, or a non-dismissals notification for the duration (like how Google Play Music pins a song at the top of your screen when the app loses focus), it spams notifications every half hour or so. Otherwise pretty good.
Was a great app but now it's pretty useless from what I've been experiencing. Maybe it changed cause I've got a new and different phone but I doubt it. It used to be greatly detailed and extremely informative, now it is vague gives me info on weather from one end of the country to the other. I'm in Saskatchewan, I want Saskatchewan weather and DETAILS. If you can make it better so it resembles the app I had in the summer I'll give you five stars!
Always accurate and gives me enough notice in any situation since I installed it. The app is also very user friendly and easy to understand, as well as gives clear instructions when advisories and alerts are given based on severity. 5 star rating without a doubt. This also takes the place of Environment Canada and The Whether Network alerts as it also gives that detailed information. Great for overall safety and knowledge. Last update helped improve location accuracy as well. Highly recommend.'
