DESCRIPTION

Use UptoPlay to play online the game Japanese dictionary.

JDict is a Japanese-English offline dictionary featuring over 160000 entries, over 10000 kanji and almost 60000 example sentences.
It is largely inspired by well-known "[Imi_wa?]" dictionary for [i_O_S] platform both functionally and visually.

Current features:
- works offline
- shows kana/romaji as you type
- supports wildcards in vocabulary
- recent words, examples and kanji
- romaji mode in search
- kanji search is divided by ON/KUN readings, Nanori and meaning results
- very fast example search
- extract words from sentences feature
- kanji stroke order animations
- furigana is matched everywhere with my own algorithm (still can have some bugs though)
- in component view, you can see all kanji with given component ordered by JLPT level and word commonness
- in kanji view, you can see all compounds with given kanji ordered like above
- search kanji by components (design inspired by "Japanese" dictionary)
- browse kanji by JLPT and School Grades
- notes
- lists (works like favorites but with folders/sub-folders)
- vocabulary search recognizes some basic grammar when typing
- in word detail view examples are categorized by word meaning if such a connection exists

As you can see features are mostly basic for now.
The database file is quite big (~230MB). The reason for that is that it contains a lot of example sentences data and needs a lot of indexes to run smooth.

My plans:

- make the application more user-friendly (list search)
- learn vocabulary feature (using lists)
- exporting lists to Anki
- external links in vocabulary
- kanji handwriting recognition
- Shiratori game
- improve extract words algorithm (I have some ideas using the statistical approach to make it run faster)

Acknowledgments:

- Electronic Dictionaries Research Groups
- KanjiVG
- Tatoeba
- KanjiCafe
- Tanos (JLPT)

Enjoy with UptoPlay the online game Japanese dictionary.

Comments:

Other than the horrible ads that block the screen and interrupt what you're tripping, I like using this dictionary. However, the ads are so annoying, and I've even picked the paid version, but the ads are still there. Developer is very slow to respond to questions, even though I paid for the app. Until this issue is truly resolved, don't waste your money on this app like I did! Find another dictionary to use!

`This app used to be amazing. It saved me a lot of time back in Japanese 1 and 2 when I was in high school. This app now contains really annoying intrusive ads for Facebook where it used to contain banner ads that were out of the way. I tried upgrading only for it to say it failed to process it in the app while still taking my money. This is a perfect example of fixing things that aren't broken. The ads were fine before, but you "fixed" them and they now cover the whole screen at random. 2/5`,

I've had this app for 4 months or so. Really like it and had it on an older phone for almost 2 years. But somehow a particular facebook ad has ramped up. Even if I disable autorotate, I get the same wideview ad incessantly taking up the whole screen every time I want to type or search a new word.

The interface is pretty comfortable and the database is pretty expansive, works great for a basic dictionary, and the kanji lists are nice too. But HELL the ads are extremely disruptive, even if i restrict access to my network. I think I'm typing a word right after opening the app, but nope, full screen ad popped up and I'm already in chrome after accidentally clicking it. Decent dictionary, but really trash app

Worked fine for the better part of 2 years or so, bugs here and there but overall fine. Just now however, everything on it was wiped, all the history, the favourites and everything else in the vocabulary list. Everything I saved is now gone and I can't get it back. I'm frankly extremely upset, if there's anything I can do to get it back then please let me know, or better yet, fix it and not let something like this happen again."
