What is it?

The Emergency Department Screener is based on the Assessment Urgency Algorithm embedded in the interRAI Contact Assessment Emergency Department module. This screener predicts the need for follow-up assessment and risk of poor outcomes. The Emergency Department Screener has 6 risk levels indicating need for referral or assessment, where 1 is "Least Urgent" and 6 is "Most Urgent".

What is the purpose?

To help prioritize referrals for focused assessment and services in the emergency department, community or inpatient unit. The results of the Emergency Department Screener are designed to inform, but not replace, best clinical judgement. Your final clinical decision should be based on all information available to you.
